For 2009, the Compass receives a redesigned instrument panel, a center console with a split lid for added storage space, and door trim panels. Chrome accents brighten the round heating, ventilation and air conditioning vents, shift bezel, door spears and cluster rings. The all-new center console and door trim panels feature padded armrests and new LED-illuminated cup holders make it easier to place beverages in the right spot at night.
The test model came equipped with the optional second-generation Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT2) that Chrysler engineers calibrated for pleasing engine response and precise ratio control. The CVT2 improves fuel economy by six to eight percent compared with a traditional four-speed automatic transaxle, or 23 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Equipped with Freedom Drive 1, the Compass earns an estimated city/highway fuel economy of 21/24 mpg.
